The steel plant in San Zeno Naviglio is the main plant of the Group with an extension of roughly 491,680 m2 and a production capacity of about 950,000 tons of steel per year.

In the San Zeno plant, the steel production process begins with the melting of scrap, which is then completely recycled, continues with the refinement and ends with continuous casting, the result are the semi-products of round section, square, rectangular and dog bone.

The plant includes an electric furnace, two refining furnaces, one of which is a twin, which allows two steel castings to be treated simultaneously, a degassing plant, two continuous casting lines and a water treatment plant.

The production process generate salso a by-product called Blackstone, intended for reuse in construction as a substrate for bitominous and cementious conglomerates; this “waste” product that is reused, is a perfect example of a circular economy in steel production.

The plant has a rail link of over 5 kilometers, which connects it to the national railways line.

By the end of 2022, the new beam rolling mill is expected tthe conclusion of the construction work, which will complete the verticalization of the product in San Zeno, to be operational in early 2023.

The plant, now under construction, has the best available technologies and will have minimal environmental impact thanks to energy efficiency solutions and the use of renewable energy.

The new SBM rolling mill will be able to roll 700 thousand tons of steel, and integrate production, now divided into three different plants, with considerable benefit of logistics management; the existing rolling mills will continue in their respective specialization paths.
