SUSTAINABILITY AND SAFETY
OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY
The steel we produce is the material of the future: innovative, safe and sustainable. It comes from the recycling of ferrous scrap and is fully recyclable.
Our group has always been committed to reduce the environmental impact of industrial activities. The constant monitoring of environmental performances and the continuous improvement of production processes’ efficiency, through the adoption of the best technology available, are the tools we use everyday in the search for an efficient management of natural resources.
“The growing integration between business and sustainability as a development agent will lead our work and the decision-making process in the next future. In terms of sustainability our goals are ambitious but can’t be postponed”
Franco Monteferrario – President Duferco Travi e Profilati.
CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Electric arc furnace steel is a tangible example of circular economy: it is fully recyclable and can be remelted indefinitely without losing its intrinsic properties.
Duferco Travi e Profilati primarily uses ferrous scrap as its main raw material, supporting a sustainable production model.
Over 92% of the raw materials in our steel come from recycled sources. By-products are recovered and reused, such as Blackstone, which is employed in the construction industry.
The new SBM rolling mill in San Zeno Naviglio, powered by renewable energy, has enabled a 20% reduction in gas consumption and a 10% decrease in electricity use. Additionally, 98% of electricity consumption is covered by Guarantees of Origin.
Duferco TP is a member of the Global Steel Climate Council, contributing to the definition of international standards for low-emission steel production.

SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY
Commitment to the local community
Attention to local communities and the regions hosting our facilities is a core value for the Group. We are committed to building long-lasting, transparent, and respectful relationships with all stakeholders. For this reason, we regularly support local associations through contributions and donations.
In addition, we actively participate in Comunità Pratica, a network of local businesses that collaborate on shared initiatives to generate social value.
Emergency Hospital in Entebbe
Following its international history and identity, the group is also committed to support humanitarian projects around the world. Duferco Travi e Profilati is one of the partners of Emergency in the construction of the pediatric surgery in Entebbe, Uganda. The hospital is projected to become a reference with 3 surgery rooms, 72 beds and an important center for medical education: it is a model for the whole Estern Africa and can give highly qualified health assistance to patients coming from Uganda and from other African nations.
Safety
In Duferco Travi e Profilati, safety is an integral part of our culture. Every year, we invest in training, audits, and process improvements to reduce risks and promote responsible behavior. Our goal is clear: zero accidents.
We foster a shared safety culture through cross-departmental audits and the active involvement of our employees.
Target Zero
To achieve our zero-accident target, we continuously update procedures to meet the highest safety standards. A structured process has been developed and implemented to manage key health and safety aspects, including on-site inspections conducted by teams from different departments. The aim is to identify potential risks linked to unsafe behaviors and turn these insights into concrete, shared, and effective actions to improve safety conditions.
Training
Investing in skills is a strategic priority for us. In 2024, we launched the Duferco Academy: a continuous learning program accessible to all employees, offering courses in soft skills, digitalization, languages, and job-specific technical training.
We also work closely with local schools and technical institutes (ITS) to support youth access to the job market. The Future4Steel project has involved young talents in paid training programs, with the goal of integrating them into the company.
