The steel we produce is the material of the future: innovative, safe and sustainable. It comes from the recycling of ferrous scrap and is fully recyclable.

Our group has always been committed to reduce the environmental impact of industrial activities. The constant monitoring of environmental performances and the continuous improvement of production processes’ efficiency, through the adoption of the best technology available, are the tools we use everyday in the search for an efficient management of natural resources.

“The growing integration between business and sustainability as a development agent will lead our work and the decision-making process in the next future. In terms of sustainability our goals are ambitious but can’t be postponed”

Franco Monteferrario – President Duferco Travi e Profilati.

The electric steel industry is a perfect example of circular economy: steel is a permanent and durable material; it is 100% recyclable and can be endlessly melted without losing any of its inherent properties.

The main raw material used in the production processes is made of the ferrous scrap. Thanks to the ease in separating from other materials, steel waste can be easily regenerated for other uses, giving birth to a circular model based on recycle and re-using.

High quality products, which can be used also in extremely innovative fields, such as automotive, civil or industrial infrastructure, come from material that otherwise would be destined to landfill.

Finally, the black slag generated by the melting process is used to produce Blackstone, a by-product employed in the construction field.

The attention to local community

The attention to local community and to the territories surrounding our plants consists of the constant commitment to build long-term clear and respectful relationships with all the stakeholders. Therefore, we regularly support different associations with contributions and donations. During the hardest months of Covid-19 pandemic crisis, the managers of Duferco Group decided to cut their salary and raise a sum that was later donated to the communities of Poncarale and San Zeno Naviglio, which are at the heart of one of the territory most strongly hit by the first wave of the epidemic.

Emergency Hospital in Entebbe

Following its international history and identity, the group is also committed to support humanitarian projects around the world. Duferco Travi e Profilati is one of the partners of Emergency in the construction of the pediatric surgery in Entebbe, Uganda. The hospital is projected to become a reference with 3 surgery rooms, 72 beds and an important center for medical education: it is a model for the whole Estern Africa and can give highly qualified health assistance to patients coming from Uganda and from other African nations.

Protect and promote safety and health of our people is one of the main goals of our group. All the divisions and departments pay the highest attention to prevent any danger, also through the analysis of accident or near miss, continuous education, and audit to assess procedures.

To promote the constant improvement of behaviors and build a responsible culture in the field of safety and health, focused on the prevention of injuries and the full respect of the norms, all the employees regularly take part in specific courses according to their job position and the risks related to their activities. The end goal is to spread a collective culture of safety, shared among different company’s divisions, which allows to prevent dangers.

Target Zero

To reach the zero accidents goal and build an injury free environment, we are committed to continuously adjourn procedures in compliance with the highest safety standards. A process for the management of safety and health has been developed and implemented: it foresees an onsite audit of work activities between functions belonging to other departments. The aim is to gather ideas for improvements on potential risks deriving from incorrect behaviors or dangerous situations and to implement effective activities to increase safety standards.
